DR OSCAR BISCET
Oscar's Cuba is a feature-length documentary that will help spread the message and story of Dr. Oscar Biscet, a prisoner of conscience currently serving a 25-year sentence in Cuba for his promotion of human rights.
Oscar's Cuba will highlight the courage, faith and hope of Dr. Biscet and others working for democracy on the island. The goals of Oscar's Cuba include raising public awareness about the plight of Cuban people, helping individuals to stand and work in solidarity with those unjustly imprisoned and, ultimately, helping to secure the release of Dr. Biscet and all of Cuba's prisoners of conscience. ~from http://www.oscarscuba.com/

Prisoner release update: You may have heard that the Spanish government and Catholic Church have negotiated the release of 52 prisoners of conscience unjustly imprisoned for advocating democracy and human rights in Cuba. A few have been released and Oscar is on the list of those to be released in the coming months. Although we remain hopeful, many believe Oscar's release is unlikely as he has pledged not to leave Cuba and forced exile does seem to be a condition of release. We will keep you updated as these developments continue.
Dr. Biscet sends a special message about Oscar's Cuba from prison
Message from Dr Oscar Elias Biscet
I want to thank all those who made the Oscar´s Cuba documentary possible. Although I haven't been able to watch it, for being unjustly in prison, my wife Elsa Morejon, and the Lawton Foundation Directive Board have told me that it reflects part of my life, and the life of many Human Rights activists and Civil Society in Cuba. I pray to God that this documentary helps to promote the defense of life and human rights in my country.

Aug 23rd, 2009 Executive Producer Jordan Allott Writes Letter to Dr. Biscet
Executive Producer Jordan Allott returned home after a week of filming in Havana, Cuba. Jordan had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Biscet's wife, Elsa, on three occasions and spent time with young dissident bloggers, musicians and artists.
Jordan presented Elsa with a letter to give to Oscar on behalf of the Oscar's Cuba project. On Friday the 21st of August, during the two hour visit she is allowed to have with Oscar every 6 weeks, Elsa smuggled in the letter. Oscar read the letter and was moved by the passion with which the Oscar's Cuba team and its supporters are working to help bring about his release and the freedom of the Cuban people.
So keep up the good work, everyone!
The English and Spanish versions of our letter can be here.
Prayer Jordan Allott included in a letter to Oscar.
Prisoner's Prayer to Maximilian Kolbe
O Prisoner-Saint of Auschwitz, help me in my plight. Introduce me to Mary, the Immaculata, Mother of God. She prayed for Jesus in a Jerusalem jail. She prayed for you in a Nazi prison camp. Ask her to comfort me in my confinement. May she teach me always to be good. If I am lonely, may she say "God is here." If I feel hate, may she say "God is love." If I am tempted, may she say "God is pure." If I sin, may she say "God is mercy." If I am in darkness, may she say "God is light." If I am unjustly condemned, may she say "God is truth." If I have pain in soul or body, may she say "God is peace." If I lose hope, may she say: "God is with you all days, and so am I."
Amen.
Report: Dr. Oscar Biscet to be released from prison within days
On thursday the Catholic Church in Cuba announced the upcoming release of political prisoner Oscar Elías Biscet, the most unwavering and best-known dissident of the 75 jailed during a repressive wave in 2003.
Reports indicate that Dr. Biscet will be allowed to stay in Cuba, a stipulation he has insisted upon.
Biscet, a doctor who has been serving a 25-year sentence for alleged activities against state security, is the president of the Lawton Foundation for Human Rights.
